Jr. Ranger Angler Program ( NEW!)

About the Program:

The Junior Ranger Angler program provides an educational experience for young people to learn about fishing, responsible recreation, and the many recreational opportunities in our nation’s National Parks and Trails. After completing the program, participants will earn a badge and the title of Junior Ranger Angler. We will also have some other fun surprises for you to take home too. This program is sponsored by the National Park Service through a generous grant from the National Washington Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association.  The Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail in partnership with Brielle Chamber of Commerce and the Borough of Brielle will be hosting these programs.

Why Attend?

The program introduces kids and families to the sport of fishing by offering hands on instruction and lessons on topics such as local aquatic habitats, species of fish, fishing safety, and more. Participants will not only learn how to fish, but also about some of the history associated with the Washington-Rochambeau National Historic Trail in New Jersey and how soldiers fished during the American Revolution. 

Let's Go Fishing! 

This event is a forerunner to a Junior Angler event sponsored by the Brielle Recreation and Brielle Chamber, where participants, ages 7 to 16, will be guided by experts and receive the opportunity to try fishing in the Manasquan River and Atlantic Ocean. Participants who sign up in advance for the fishing  event will receive a t-shirt. One parent or guardian may accompany their child on the boat. Additional details will be available the fishing event during the June 7, 2023 program.

Get Your Booklet: Copies of the "Let's go Fishing!" Booklet will  be available at the April 20th program; however, copies may also be obtained in advance from the library. Junior Rangers are typically between the ages of 5 to 13, although people of all ages can participate. This booklet and program offer great opportunities to get kids and families outdoors, where they can make memories and enjoy the benefits of outdoor recreation together. About the  Speaker:

Johnny Carawan (Ranger Johnny) has served as the Trail Administrator for the National Park Service (NPS) Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route National Historic Trail since 2019. As the Trail Administrator, he oversees the day-to-day operational needs of this 680-mile trail. Prior to becoming a Trail Administrator, he worked at Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, Colonial National Historical Park, Cape Lookout National Seashore, and special assignments to Grand Canyon National Park, and both Northeast and Southeast Regional Offices. Johnny has 22 years of experience with the NPS. His background includes a variety of areas from law enforcement, fire and safety, volunteers and partnerships, park operations, and fee and business program management. He also has 23 years of military experience and currently serves in the Air Force Reserve. His education includes a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies from Liberty University and a Master’s in Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Sports Management from North Carolina State University.
